MMH Lab Receives Distinguished Award

The Montrose Memorial Hospital Laboratory is the 2007 recipient of the Colorado Laboratory Forum Sentry Award.  This honor is awarded annually to one laboratory within the state of Colorado.  The Sentry Award recognizes noticeable effort in the accurate and timely detection of biologic agents of infection, the reporting of significant laboratory findings and referral of biologic pathogens and specimens. The Montrose Memorial Hospital Laboratory is a member of the Colorado Laboratory Forum (CLF), and the only CLF lab to have perfect Proficiency Testing results since the CLF exercises began in 2004.

The Montrose Memorial Hospital Laboratory voluntarily participates in the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) Laboratory Services Division program for proficiency in the recognition of agents of bioterrorism.  The Microbiology personnel also take annual classes, both on-line and at the CDPHE or Health Department facilities, to continue their education.  The CDPHE has a firm commitment to the education and preparation of the sentinel laboratories within Colorado.

Mr. Larry Sater, Microbiologist and Instructor for the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment Laboratory visited the MMH laboratory on October 19, 2007 to present the Sentry Award to the Microbiology staff.  The MMH Medical Technologists, Jerry Heilig, Linda Wood, Betty Duckett, Steve Schiltz and Sue Kor, were delighted to receive this prestigious honor.
