As a regional medical center, Montrose Memorial Hospital is proud of its Mammography Department and the high level of service it provides the women of our community.
Because the American Cancer Society recommends women over 40 have an annual mammogram, we encourage you to schedule an appointment today. It’s important, vitally important. Just click on the topics below to learn why. ACCREDITATION? THAT’S NOT ALL! BREAST CANCER AND THE “SECOND OPINION" LESS INVASIVE BIOPSY, IF NEEDED
ACCREDITATION? THAT’S NOT ALL! The MMH Mammography Department is accredited by the American College of Radiology and the American Hospital Association to provide leading mammography services. We have the latest equipment, and our physicians are Board Certified while our technologists are Certified Mammographers. Additionally, the staff has completed 40 additional hours of study, completed supervised practical work, successfully passed certification exams, and taken post-grad Continuing Ed courses to maintain certification from the American College of Radiology. But what truly distinguishes us in the region is the competence and compassion of our staff. Professionals every one, they know their patients are depended upon by friends and family, so they work diligently to assure the highest quality of service. In the past, women expressed discomfort when having a mammogram, thus discouraging some from having regular annual exams. Today it’s a different experience, a softer, warmer experience. The MMH Mammography Department is pleased to use the FDA-approved MammoPad, a soft foam pad that creates a cushion between you and the mammography machine. Because women are more relaxed during the exam, it makes it easier for our mammography technologists to get the best possible image. With less discomfort, women are more apt to receive this vital procedure. You will be greeted and treated warmly. BREAST CANCER AND THE “SECOND OPINION” At Montrose Memorial Hospital, a picture is worth more than a thousand words . . . it could be worth your life. According to the American Cancer Society, 213,000 U.S. women are diagnosed with invasive breast cancer each year. Over a lifetime, your chances are one in eight. But an annual mammogram can help. When breast cancer is confined to the breast by early detection, the five-year survival rate is more than 95 percent. The Mammography Team at Montrose Memorial Hospital, utilizing the latest in technology, can detect abnormalities in your breasts months before you can on your own. For instance, the Mammography Team uses a CAD Reader (that’s Computer-Aided Detection) for a “second opinion.” It doesn’t replace the radiologist reading your mammogram, but instead alerts the physician to areas of concern. It’s more accurate and helps to eliminate additional appointments and procedures.
A LESS INVASIVE BIOPSY, IF NEEDED In the event that a breast biopsy is called for, MMH Mammography Department now performs Mammotome, a minimally invasive procedure that causes little discomfort. The resulting diagnosis is as accurate as an open surgical procedure and can be performed in a procedure room rather than an operating room. Better yet, the incision is so small that stitches are not required, there is no scarring, and patients may resume normal activities the next day.
